Share with Me in a Celebration of Romance

As I’ve mentioned recently, a very special day is approaching.  My son has found his happy ever after and will be exchanging those sacred vows on Saturday, May 4.  I want to celebrate his nuptials with you!!  I recently had the opportunity to visit a book signing with New York Times Best Seller, Nicole Reed, author of the Ruining Series, and I had a wonderful time talking books with Nicole.  We also talked about my son’s wedding and Nicole graciously agreed to celebrate along with all of you by participating in an interview and offering her signed books to one lucky winner!  Did I mention that we are the one of the first to learn of some special news that Nicole has for her readers in the future?  Check out her interview to learn more about Nicole and her books.  Then, in celebration of J. and A., scroll down to read J.’s proposal to A. and enter the giveaway!

Interview

Nicole, I had such a fun time with you and can’t remember when I’ve had such a good time talking books (especially books I discovered we both loved and authors we had in common). Thank you for agreeing to answer a few questions for your fans and me. So, I’ll just cut straight to the chase, because I know you’re busy.

I enjoyed speaking with you so also!! Hopefully next time, we can meet up for dinner and talk more books!

I’ll definitely take you up on that dinner the next time I’m in your area.  :)  So, let’s talk books – specifically, your books.  Your first book was truly a gut-wrenching knock-out.  Ruining Me touched on some pretty controversial issues that are so relevant today. (drugs, alcohol, rape, suicide, etc.) Jay had such a gut-wrenching past and present that had me glued to the pages; her dreams were especially haunting. What was your inspiration for Jay’s story?

Jay’s story is inspired by real life events, some that touched my own life. Unfortunately, these controversial issues plague young women everyday. More often than not, readers can relate because of their own life, family, friend, or general acquaintance that has dealt with these horrifying situations.

I couldn’t agree with you more that those very issues plague many young women.  I’m sure we all know of someone who has dealt with some of those same issues that Jay deals with in your book.  Ruining Me ended with a serious choice Jay had to make … her path in life or possibly death. When you finished Ruining Me, did you already know which path Jay would be taking?

Without a doubt, the ending of Ruining Me, surprised even me. I spent nights agonizing where to go, when I finally came to the realization, that I needed to leave it.

I have to say that with all the emotion I felt in the end, I am also glad you decided to leave it as is.  Now, as if I wasn’t on the edge of my seat and worried enough at the end of Ruining Me, Ruining You had me scared for Jay almost as much. The epilogue was the perfect closure for me regarding Jay’s battles. Do you know how you will end a book ahead of time or does the book play out as you are writing it?

My books definitely “play out” as I write them. That is why I have to write in chronological order, otherwise I end up rewriting everything. I’ve said before, Ruining You is the story I couldn’t wait to tell. Jay’s pain and healing process called to me. I knew who she would end up with, but I didn’t know how, until I typed the last chapter.

Just for the record, I have always been Team Kane from the beginning.  Tattoos, motorcycle, sweet and caring…I was a goner from the get-go.  While Jay and Kane were my favorite characters in the Ruining duet, I also loved her friends from her past and the new friends she met in her journey to healing.  Will we see more from these characters?

You are one of the first to hear, that I am starting a trilogy that will include Cal and Eli’s novellas and end with Rhye’s novel, Wasted Heart. Cal’s story is called Wounded Heart and Eli’s is Wanted Heart. Each story will contain familiar beloved characters and will be part of the Ruining Series as the Ruining Heart Series. The first will be out later this year.

Yay!!  That’s so exciting to hear because I loved both Cal and Eli, and Rhye definitely grew on me.  You have a new book on the horizon titled, Cake, which appears to be a completely different type of story, and I’m already anticipating it’s release. The cover is splendid. What can you tell us about Cake, the story and the characters; and will this be a series or a stand-alone?

Ooh… I can’t wait for everyone to read Cake. It’s a New Adult Romance Novel that I’ve been dying to write. It will be part of an, as of yet, unnamed series.
Kylie Lord has been in love with Trent Moss since he worked with her at a local coffee house in college. He is everything she ever wanted: a kind, soft-hearted, intelligent guy, but unfortunately, he only sees Kylie as a close friend. Dray Savage is a male chauvinist pig, who is a necessary evil. Dray is Trent’s, best friend and foster brother, and it’s not until years later that Kylie finds use for him….in her bedroom. Now Trent’s back and thinking Kylie may be the one for him, but everything’s changed, and she’s not ready to give either one of them up.

I’m thrilled you have another series up your sleeve for us.  Thank you so much, Nicole, for taking time away from your busy schedule to answer a few questions, offer your wonderful books in a giveaway for the readers, and celebrating my son’s upcoming wedding with all of us.

About the author:

Nicole Reed

I love angst….I thrive on it, but only the fictional kind. I adore a story that grips the reader from the beginning and doesn’t let go…EVER. I’m an avid reader who just recently discovered my love of writing. My favorite things in life include my three wild & crazy kids, Reese’s Pieces, and every genre of music. I reside in the Deep South.

*** Proposal ***
Taking a deep breath, J. looks into A.’s eyes and blocks out all witnesses surrounding them.  “You are my life and my light in a darkened world.  I can’t imagine waking up in the morning without having your love in my heart or you by my side.  You are in every breath that I take.  My heart belongs to you.  Always.  I can’t imagine a future without you.  A., I love you as Christ loves the church and I want to walk through Heaven with you when we’re gone from this world.  This ring represents my mother’s past and a long-lasting marriage, but it is also the start of our future and long life together as one.  Will you honor me in becoming my wife?”
With tears streaming down her cheeks and a hitch in her breath, A. quickly replies, “Yes! Yes!”

FYI:  My son and I sat and talked over what he wanted to say to A. beforehand.  This proposal was the result.  (Just between you and me, I thought the poor child was going to take crib notes on his palm.)  The engagement ring J. presented to A. belonged to me.  She has yet to see the wedding band that coordinates with the ring, but it once belonged to me as well.
